Dear OceanView Families,
We hope that you had a wonderful and restful summer. The Ocean View (OV) Parent Teacher Association (PTA) would like to welcome you to the 2011–2012 academic school year. We have some exciting activities planned, and we hope that you will join us! Please see the attached calendar for a list of PTA and school events for the upcoming school year.
The OV PTA is a group of parents and staff that volunteer together to create community in our school, support our children’s education and well-being, and organize events that are enjoyable and informative. We strongly encourage all families to attend meetings, consider membership, and donate just a few hours of their time to one of our events or fundraisers. It is very easy to get involved, there is no time commitment required, and the benefits to your children are immeasurable. You will also find that it is a fun way to meet other families and an extremely rewarding way to become proactive in your child’s life.
Some fun events this year include a carnival at Golden Gate Fields, a Sock-Hop, school-wide potlucks, a movie night, talent show, parent ed speakers, and others listed on the calendar. In our on-going efforts to enrich our children’s education, it is imperative that we raise funds to support school programs in addition to these social events. Because of these PTA funds, OV is able to provide enrichment programs, special assemblies, field trips, and additional aid to staff, among many other things.
We are pleased to announce that the OV PTA is now collaborating with the other Albany elementary schools’ PTAs in a joint fundraiser. You will soon receive detailed information about the Albany Elementary Giving Campaign. As a result of this fundraiser, our children will enjoy special enrichment programs beginning this school year, including performing arts, visual arts, chess, and poetry.
Albany is fortunate to have a number of organizations that fundraise in support of our children’s education, including SchoolCARE, Albany Music Fund, and Albany Education Foundation. While we are fortunate to be in a community that supports our public schools so generously, we acknowledge that we are asking parents directly for this financial support. We would like to give you an idea of when major fundraisers will take place so you have a chance to plan. This September the Albany Elementary Giving Campaign will ask that every family make a donation to support enrichment for the suggested amount of $50-$250 per child. The OV PTA will have our second annual 100-A-Thon in January and request that every family make a donation of $100 per child to support our school directly.
Lastly, we hope that you will join us in our efforts to provide quality education and a wonderful school experience for our children. Our mission is that every family at Ocean View will volunteer or contribute something towards our group at least once during this school year. If we all put in a small amount of our time, we believe there is no limit to what we can achieve together!
We look forward to meeting all of you!
Sincerely,
Ocean View Elementary School PTA Board
